Why Choose Commonwealth Legal Group
for Personal Injury Cases in Diamond Bar, CA?

There are many personal injury attorneys in LA and Orange County.
Here’s what sets Commonwealth Legal Group, PC apart from the competition.

Millions Recovered for Injured Clients

Numbers tell a story. Attorney Albert Ng has recovered millions of dollars for his clients since founding Commonwealth Legal Group. That total includes a $2.2 million trial verdict in a rear-end collision case where the defense’s last settlement offer was $0. It also includes a $1 million recovery in a truck accident caused by an unsafe lane change, an $800,000 result in a slip and fall case against a restaurant, a $600,000 recovery against a rideshare company, and a $500,000 result for a pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle.

These outcomes didn’t happen because insurance companies felt generous. They happened because we build strong cases and refuse to accept less than what our clients deserve.

What Damages Are Recoverable in a Diamond Bar Personal Injury Case?

The word ‘damages’ in personal injury law means the money you’re entitled to because someone else’s negligence hurt you. California recognizes three types.

Economic damages are your verifiable financial losses. Hospital bills, surgery costs, prescription medication, physical therapy, lost wages during recovery, reduced earning capacity if you can’t return to the same work, and property damage. If your back injury requires spinal fusion surgery at $150,000, that number is recoverable. If you miss four months of work earning $6,000 a month, that’s $24,000 in lost wages. California does not cap economic damages.

Non-economic damages cover pain and suffering, emotional distress, loss of enjoyment of life, scarring and disfigurement, and loss of consortium. These losses don’t come with invoices, but they are real. A 28-year-old who can no longer run because of a shattered ankle has lost something concrete, and California law compensates for it.

Punitive damages are available when the defendant’s conduct was particularly egregious. Under Civil Code 3294, you can seek punitive damages by showing malice, oppression, or fraud by clear and convincing evidence. A drunk driver, a company that concealed a known safety defect, a landlord who deliberately ignored a dangerous condition, these scenarios can trigger punitive damages on top of compensatory recovery.

Answers to Your Most Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Two years from the date of injury under CCP Section 335.1. Claims against government entities require an administrative claim within six months under Government Code 911.2. The clock starts ticking the day you’re hurt, and evidence begins degrading immediately. Waiting too long can also weaken your case because witnesses become harder to locate and their memories become less reliable.

  • Car accidents, truck accidents, motorcycle crashes, pedestrian and bicycle accidents, slip and falls, dog bites, rideshare accidents, wrongful death, and any other situation where someone is injured due to another party’s negligence. At Commonwealth Legal Group, we handle all of these case types for Diamond Bar residents and have case results across each category.

  • Nothing upfront. We handle cases on contingency. You pay no legal fees unless we recover money for you. The fee is a percentage of the recovery.

  • That depends on the severity of your injuries, the strength of the evidence, the available insurance, and whether the case settles or goes to trial. Our recoveries have ranged from $100,000 to $2.2 million. Attorney Ng can provide a realistic assessment during your free consultation.

  • Yes. California’s pure comparative fault system allows recovery even if you bear most of the blame. Your compensation is reduced by your percentage of fault. If you are 30% responsible and damages total $300,000, you recover $210,000.

  • A settlement is an agreement reached between you and the insurance company without going to trial. A verdict is a decision made by a judge or jury after trial. Most cases settle. But cases where the lawyer is prepared to go to trial tend to settle for more.

  • Simple cases with clear liability and moderate injuries can resolve in a few months. Complex cases with serious injuries, disputed fault, or multiple defendants can take a year or longer. If the case goes to trial, add additional time for litigation.

  • Do not give a recorded statement. Be polite but tell them you have retained an attorney or plan to. Anything you say can be used to reduce or deny your claim.

  • Most personal injury cases settle without a trial. But some require litigation. We prepare every case as though it’s heading to court, and that preparation is exactly what drives higher settlement offers.

  • Medical records, photographs of your injuries and the scene, police reports, witness statements, documentation of lost wages, and any correspondence with insurance companies. An attorney can help identify and preserve additional evidence specific to your case.

  • Yes. Emotional distress is a recognized category of non-economic damages in California. If the negligence caused you anxiety, depression, PTSD, or other psychological harm, that is compensable.

  • You may still have options. Your own uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage can apply in vehicle accident cases. In other situations, the negligent party may have personal assets that can satisfy a judgment. An attorney can evaluate what sources of recovery exist.

  • Negligence means someone failed to act with the level of care that a reasonable person would exercise in the same situation, and that failure caused injury. California Civil Code Section 1714 establishes a general duty of care. Proving negligence requires showing duty, breach, causation, and damages.

  • We listen to what happened, review any evidence you have, explain whether you have a viable claim, estimate the potential value, and outline next steps. There is no obligation and no cost.

  • Yes. In California, you have the right to change attorneys at any time. If you feel your current lawyer isn’t communicating, isn’t fighting hard enough, or isn’t the right fit, contact us for a second opinion.
